Hyundai Construction Equipment launch the new Hyundai HL960 HD Heavy Duty Wheeled Loader

Hyundai has recently launched a brand new heavy duty wheeled loader – the HL960 HD.
This new addition to the Hyundai range offers the very best in wheeled loader
technology, and has been designed with the waste handling and recycling industries in
mind, which are experiencing a high growth rate in Europe and North America.Taylor and Braithwaite - Hyundai HL960 HD Press Release

The new HL960 HD has an operating weight of 19,300 kg (42,549 Ib) and at the heart of the
new machine is the very latest Stage IV Cummins QSB6.7 electronically controlled diesel
engine with a net power of 222 hp (166 kW) at 2,200 rpm.

Heavy Duty Axles for Enhanced Performance
The robust HL960 HD has been engineered to Hyundai’s high standards and designed with
customised solutions for working in harsh environments.
The HL960 HD has been designed with a heavy-duty axle with enhanced load capacity for
durability – the axles are the same as the larger HL970 machine. The maximum load capacity
is 44,000 kg at the front and 35,000 kg at the rear which is considerably larger than the HL960
wheeled loader.
These heavy-duty axles are able to operate with solid tyres (option) which are essential in
harsh waste environments and are not susceptible to punctures. They also benefit from longer
operating times which results in decreased brake and axle fatigue.
A dual axle oil cooler is available as an option – this helps prevent axle over-heating on both
front and rear axles. This can occur when performing repetitive work in a narrow operating
area – which is very common in recycling and waste handling depots.

Extra Guarding Options for Harsh Working Environments
Options available on the new machine include extra guarding for the industrial sector which
protects both man and machine from falling debris and materials. The guarding also protects
against materials making their way into the machines major components.
Guarding options are available on the new HL960 HD for the cabin, bucket cylinder, head
lamp, attachment hoses, rear combination lamp and rear grill.

Environmental features
In addition to being more fuel-efficient the new HL Series has many other environmentally
friendly features.
Automatic shutdown of engine prevents unnecessary fuel consumption and emissions. The HL
Series turns off the engine when it enters into an ‘idling’ state. Operators can select operating
mode and ‘idling’ time depending on work environments which improves its efficiency even
further. The standard five Speed transmission with Lock-up Clutch on this machine also aids
fuel consumption depending on the working conditions.
The ECO Gauge feature enables consistent economic operation through frequent checks of
the machine’s operating state. The ECO gauge level changes colour with the engine torque
and fuel efficiency level. In addition, it monitors fuel consumption, such as average rate and
the total amount of fuel consumed which are displayed on the monitor.
When operators use the accelerator pedal, the ECO pedal – which comes as standard – can
distinguish between economical operation and power operation and recognises the
economical operation which in turn reduces the fuel consumption.
The HL Series also feature a ‘travel speed limit control’ where the operator can limit the
maximum travelling speed within a range of 20 to 40 km/h to suit diverse jobsite conditions and

ICCO (Intelligent Clutch Cut-off)
By selecting the H-mode, the ICCO will be engaged for minimizing the loss of power on torque
converter. The ICCO restrains generation of heat that improves overall fuel efficiency.
The Hydraulic Lock Differential has the advantages of both improving productivity and less fuel
consumption by preventing tire slip during the operation.

New Cabin offers more comfort for the operator
Silent, safe and comfortable, the 10% larger ROPS/ FOPS new cabin with fully adjustable seatTaylor and Braithwaite - Hyundai HL960 HD Press Release
provides an ergonomic working environment that offers the ultimate in comfort for the operator.
The new cabin is fully sound-proofed using state-of-the-art noise reduction technology which
ensures maximum silence when working in noisy environments such as quarries or waste
handling depots.
The new air conditioning system maximises heating and cooling performance by optimising air
flow through the cabin.
The electro-hydraulic integrated control lever allows operators to operate attachments with
ease which in turn enables greater productivity and minimises operator fatigue.

Hyundai’s ‘Infotainment’ system for the operator’s convenience
The HL960 HD is optimised to enable operators to access accurate equipment data in quick
time. This feature is of importance when working in tough environments to improve
The intelligent seven-inch touch wide screen monitor is like a smart phone display and is larger
than the previous models and is easy to read. The Audio System, which includes a radio, has
an integrated Bluetooth hands free feature, and a built-in microphone allowing the operator to
safely take and make calls when in the cab.
The ‘Infotainment’ system also allows the operator to enjoy the Miracast system which works
via the WiFi of the operator’s smart phone and enables easy use of the smart phones features
on the big screen including navigation, web surfing, watching videos and listening to music.

Electro-hydraulic (EH) Controls
The new HL960 HD has joystick controls for boom, bucket and 3rd hydraulic line as standard.
All the models in the HL Series can also be fitted with joystick steering as an option.

Soft End Stop
Touchscreen monitor and EH controls allow several new features like ‘Soft End Stop’, bucket
priority and boom bucket detent mode, to be controlled through the touchscreen. The ‘Soft End
Stop’ delivers – when an attachment reaches the end of a stroke – a ‘shock free’ operation by
reducing the speed of the attachment near the end stroke. This function can be disabled
through the monitor should the operator not want to use this function.

Accurate On-board Weighing System
All Hyundai HL900 series models include Hyundai branded on-board weighing system as
standard equipment. Accurate to +/- 1 percent, the system has automatic and manual settings
for monitoring individual and cumulative bucket load weights. System measurements are
displayed on the multi-function screen in the cab, providing load-weight monitoring reliable
enough to support production management.

Redesigned Buckets – Improved Bucket Fill Factor
Hyundai’s improved bucket design features an innovative wider opening, curved side plates
and enhanced spill guard to maximize bucket capacity and minimize material loss when
travelling. Durability is also enhanced using high wear-resistant steel in key structural areas of
the bucket.

Ease of maintenance – electric retractable engine hood
A flick of a switch is what it takes to gain complete access to the engine compartment of
Hyundai’s new wheel loader – a new feature not seen before on the previous range of Hyundai
wheeled loaders. The fully retractable engine hood allows easy cleaning and maintenance.

The HL Series has a large-volume air cleaner, an automatic dust ejector and a three-stage
intake air pre-cleaner, as an option, to improve the replacement cycle and durability of the air
filter. The machine also has a fully sealed engine room, designed to prevent the possibility of
fire caused by the inflow of ‘foreign materials.

Larger dumping height
The new wheel loader is also available in XT version (long boom for larger dumping height).
